President and Chief Executive Officer:

Dear Mme. President, the Canadian Hellenic Congress is a non-partisan, non-profit National Organization, representing the social, political and cultural interests of over 350,000 Canadian citizens of Hellenic Heritage.

It is brought to our attention that your website incorrectly refers to a number of regions and islands, in Hellas (Greece) as …independent countries.

Those discrepancies that we have been able to identify so far include:  Corfu, Dodekanisa, or Dodecanese Islands as they are called in your website, and Crete. We were not able to identify any other similar discrepancies in other “countries” in the same website.

If your business needs require you to identify those regions separately, a possible solution could be to group them under the general heading of the country Hellas (Greece) where they are part of, for example:

Hellas (Greece)

  • Corfu
  • Dodecanisa
  • Crete

The website makes also reference to Macedonia as country. Macedonia is a province of Hellas (Greece), as Ontario, Quebec, or British Columbia are provinces of Canada. According to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both Canada and Greece, the legal name of that country in question is “FYROM”.

Obviously the person that designed the website had a limited knowledge of the geography of Hellas (Greece) or it is simply an oversight. To clarify those points we have attached snapshots of the website.

Mme. President, we kindly request that, under your leadership, all the necessary changes and corrections be made wherever necessary, in line with the high standards that a Crown Corporation, such as Canada Post, adheres to, making us all proud both here at home, and abroad.

Thank you for your prompt attention to the matter.

Sincerely,

Demetrius Manolakos, President
