chc-logo2.jpg Dear Prime Minister:

Canadians of Hellenic origin thank you for your greetings on the occasion of the forthcoming celebration of Greek Independence Day.

These greetings will certainly be read during the festivities to be held in our communities across Canada, especially in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, and at which, hopefully representatives of Government will be present.

During these trying times for Hellenes in the Diaspora, we appeal to you not to vote for the accession of the FYROM to NATO unless the issue of the name is settled between Greece and the FYROM under the auspices of the United Nations.

Mr. Prime Minister,

you are aware of the fact that Greeks in the historic province of Macedonia in Greece, and people of Greek origin in Canada, Australia, Germany, etc., will not welcome a name that includes the name of “Macedonia”.

The language of this new nation is Slavic and not Greek, and Macedonians and Macedonia itself have never been considered anything but Greek.

Let us not be party to a decision that will only distort history at this time of a national celebration.

Yours respectfully,

Demetrius Manolakos

President

Canadian Hellenic Congress
