Greek Holiday sex attack by …British girls!

What is wrong with British teenagers, and especially those  on holidays in Greece?

Some of the incidents reported were: killing their newborn babies, falling into deep water wells dead-drunk, trying to open up airplane doors in mid-flight, having sex competitions in public, being raped by other British teenagers, and the list goes on.  Brits are considered to be the worst behaved in Europe, according to a recent report. They are more likely to binge-drink, take drugs, have sex at a young age and start fights.

In 2007, British officials dealt with a higher number of sexual assaults per head than anywhere in the world with Brit on Brit rape the biggest problem, despite attempts by the british media to  associate that behaviour with the tourist destination and its local population.

The report, from a think-tank closely linked to Labour, says the collapse of family life is at least partly to blame. One, of course, can blame it on the family or the lack of it, others on the not-so-distant colonial past that gave Britons the right to do as they pleased in the four corners of their empire.

The Foreign Office doesn’t want to scare people away from Greece because of the behaviour of British tourists that paint a distorted picture of what is Brittish…

A widespread anti-rape campaign aimed at British tourists has now started across Greece, while travel agencies in the UK offer “good behaviour” tips to British teens traveling this summer away from the grey and boring days of british life…

It was also recommended that taking out comprehensive travel insurance should be a crucial part of holiday planning and not something that should be sacrificed to save a few pounds. According to reports however, some rape reported incidents may be linked to insurance claim scams to help cover all those holiday expenses.

As a Canadian of Greek origin who has visited Greece numerous times as well as, other European countries, I must say that the behaviour of many tourists visiting Greece or any other country for that matter, is unacceptable. Many forget that they are not “home” and nobody gives anybody the right to visit another country and cause problems. Also, it is the responsibility of every parent who is allowing their children to vacation in other countries to make sure that that child is responsible enough and understands that if that behaviour isn’t allowed at home then it isn’t acceptable elsewhere as well. I am assuming that the people vacationing in many countries are adults as well, and it sad to see that we must speak to them as if they were young children to understand that, that behaviour is wrong. I hope that in the future, these incidents won’t occur and I hope that Greek officials don’t allow anyone to cause problems in Greece. We are all responsible for our actions no matter where we are. Greece is a beautiful, welcoming country with much to offer to tourists visiting and the country and its people deserve to be respected.

    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Dimitra Thomakos
